Japan needs caregivers. Young Indians are answering the call.

In a classroom in Aizawl, the capital of India’s mountainous northeastern state of Mizoram, where a no-honking culture has earned it the nickname the “Silent City,” a group of Indian students in their 20s is studying Japanese.
Their goal is to find better-paid work in Japan — a country they believe offers opportunities they cannot find at home.
The class is run by the Youth4Japan Academy and operated by the Japan Centre of Excellence, commonly known as Jaceex, an Indian educational and skilling startup founded in 2019 that prepares young people, primarily from northeast India, for employment in Japan.
