United States soccer player Folarin Balogun is permitted to play in the upcoming match against Belgium after FIFA announced that the striker’s red card was suspended.
While the U.S. played against Bosnia and Herzegovina on Wednesday, Balogun was ejected from the game and received a one-match suspension. On Sunday, the FIFA Disciplinary Committee announced the suspension was reversed.
“By operation of Article 27 FDC, the implementation of the automatic match suspension for USA player Folarin Balogun is suspended for a probationary period of one (1) year,” read a quote from a FIFA article
President Donald Trump weighed in on the decision in a Truth Social post on Sunday, praising the organization for the determination.
“Thank you to FIFA for doing what was right, and reversing a great injustice!” the U.S. commander-in-chief said.

Despite Balogun’s ejection from Wednesday’s game, the U.S. Men’s National Team (USMNT) defeated Bosnia and Herzegovina 2-0, knocking the European nation’s team out of the World Cup.
On Monday, the U.S. is set to play against Belgium in the high-stakes Round of 16 match, with the winner advancing to the Round of 8 and the loser eliminated from the competition.
“We accept the decision of the Disciplinary Committee and are pleased that Folarin Balogun is eligible to compete tomorrow. Our full attention is focused on the Round of 16 match against Belgium in Seattle, and we look forward to the continued support of our amazing fans,” U.S. Soccer said in a statement.
