Are further restrictions on real estate purchases by foreign nationals necessary?

A real estate expert has raised caution over the aim of the administration of Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi to further restrict property purchases by foreign nationals, saying existing laws are already sufficient.
Instead, he argues that regulations on land usage should take priority.
The Liberal Democratic Party, led by Takaichi, and the Japan Innovation Party will draft a bill to tighten restrictions, citing economic and security reasons, in the next session of parliament, with the aim of achieving a “well-ordered and harmonious coexistence” with foreign residents.
