1 dead in Shelby County accident

SHELBYVILLE — One man is dead as the result of a two-vehicle accident Saturday in rural Shelbyville, according to a media release made available by the Illinois State Police (ISP).
The accident occurred at around 9 a.m. Saturday morning along Illinois Route 16 near Sloan Implement.
A preliminary report from ISP revealed that a 47-year-old male driving a silver 2020 Ford SUV was heading eastbound on Route 16. A 2021 Freightliner truck-tractor with a hopper bottom trailer driven by a 62-year-old male was traveling westbound.
The report stated that due to an unknown reason, the driver of the Ford drifted into the westbound lane, colliding with the Freightliner head-on
There were no passengers in either vehicle.
The 47-year-old male was pronounced dead at the scene, while the 62-year-old male was taken to a local hospital with minor injuries.
Illinois Route 16 was closed until 3:14 p.m. The Illinois State Police is still investigating the crash.
