Gifu pair nabbed for dumping woman’s corpse on riverbank
GIFU (TR) – Gifu Prefectural Police have arrested a couple for allegedly dumping the corpse of a woman along a riverbank in Motosu City earlier this month, reports TBS News (Aug. 15).
On August 7, Koji Tachibana, a 54-year-old resident of Gifu City, and Miki Kanbara, 35, allegedly left the body of Keiko Tateno, a 53-year-old part-time employee from Tokoname City, Aichi Prefecture, on the riverbank in Neokoshinami.
Police have not revealed whether the two suspects, who are in a relationship, admit to the allegations.

On August 6, Tateno’s husband filed a missing person’s report. Three days later, police found her naked body on the riverbank.
The results of an autopsy revealed the cause of death to be asphyxiation. She is believed to have died around August 6. The following day, her car was found in Gifu City.
Security camera footage from around the scene where her body was discovered shows Tachibana driving Tateno’s car.
As well, police have learned that Tateno and Tachibana had previously been communicating via smartphone. Prior to her disappearance, Tateno left her home alone in her car and headed into Gifu Prefecture. She then met up with the two suspects.
Police are seeking a motive for the crime. The investigation is ongoing on suspicion of murder.
