Two High School Boys Drown While Playing in Irrigation Pond

SHIZUOKA, Aug 03 (News On Japan) - Two high school boys drowned in a pond in Numazu, Shizuoka Prefecture, after playing in the water with their friends and reportedly stepping into a deep section where they went under.
The incident occurred around 5:30 p.m. on August 2nd at Kadoike Pond in Numazu.
Rescue teams found and pulled the boys out of the water about an hour later, but both were pronounced dead at the hospital.
According to police, the boys were both 15 years old and had participated in a festival at a park near the pond with fellow members of their high school rowing club before entering the water.
The pond is designated for agricultural use, and police are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.
