Chinese Woman Arrested for Stabbing Female Passenger at Yokohama Station
TOKYO, Jul 31 (News On Japan) - A 35-year-old Chinese woman living in Kawasaki has been arrested in connection with a stabbing incident that occurred on July 28th on the JR Tokaido Line, where a female passenger was slashed and the suspect fled the scene.
The suspect, identified as Kangrong Pan, a Chinese national residing in Asao Ward, Kawasaki City, was arrested on suspicion of assault. She is accused of slashing the arm of a 37-year-old woman with a knife-like object as the victim was boarding a train on an inbound platform at JR Yokohama Station shortly after 6 p.m. on July 28th.
According to police, the two women did not know each other. Security camera footage at Yokohama Station reportedly shows the pair getting into a dispute over the boarding order, which escalated into the attack.
Pan was located the following day by a patrolling officer at the ticket gate of Yokohama Station. After being approached by police at Kawasaki Station, she was taken into custody.
During questioning, Pan reportedly stated, "I will speak after consulting with a lawyer," and has withheld confirming or denying the charges.
Police are continuing to investigate the motive behind the incident.
