Goa Minister Vishwajit Rane

Dismissing Rane’s apology, Dr Kuttikar labelled it a “studio apology," asking that the apology be issued where the incident happened. He remains adamant that the minister must issue an apology before the public.
Kuttikar, along with other doctors at the Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) over the incident, have said that the strike would continue, and medical services may be shut down if Rane does not publicly apologise.
“I’ve seen the video. It is a studio apology. We, all the doctors, demand that the apology be given where the incident happened in front of the patients. As my humiliation went viral… I was humiliated, so I want everyone to know about the apology… within 24 hours," he had said.
What’s The Row?
Rane stirred a controversy after suspending the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) of Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) last week. In a now viral video,
Rane was seen losing his cool and berating Dr Rudresh Kuttikar during his surprise visit to the hospital after reportedly receiving a complaint against the latter.
“You learn to control your tongue, you are a doctor. I generally don’t lose my cool, but you have to behave yourself. However loaded, you have to behave properly with patients," Rane was heard as saying.
Dr Kurtikar was fired publicly and was later suspended on Rane’s orders.
Following the incident, Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant clarified that he had spoken with Health Minister Rane and assured that CMO Dr Rudresh Kuttikar would not be suspended.
The minister’s actions to fire the on-duty CMO had drawn criticism and outrage from the netizens and Indian Medical Association.
Minister’s Apology
Following the talks with the CM, Rane also acknowledged that his “tone and tenor" were not correct and that his choice of words could have been “more measured" but initially declined to apologised.
“I openly extended my heartfelt apology to Dr. Rudresh Kuttikar for the harsh words spoken by me during my visit to GMC. In the heat of the moment, my emotions overtook my expression, and I deeply regret the manner in which I addressed the situation. It was never my intention to undermine or disrespect the dignity of any medical professional," Rane said.
Doctors Demand Public Apology
The Goa branch of the Indian Medical Association (IMA) condemned the minister’s conduct, calling it an act of humiliation and demanded the immediate revocation of the suspension.
The Indian Medical Association Council, doctors, consultants, medical students, and interns at the GMCH staged a massive protest demanding a public apology from the Health Minister.
