Filmmaker Claims to Have Discovered the Exact Location of the Holy Grail
Hertfordshire filmmaker Mark Christopher Lee has made a bold claim ahead of the world premiere of his latest horror feature, The Last Grail Hunter: he believes he has discovered the exact location of the Holy Grail, and it’s buried somewhere near St Albans.
The film, starring John Altman, will have its world premiere at the Raindance Film Festival in London on June 19. But beyond the movie’s esoteric thrills and horror-laced storytelling lies a deeper mystery — one Lee says is rooted in real historical research and personal discovery.
“I’ve actually been studying grail legends for years,” says Lee. “And I believe I’ve found evidence linking the Holy Grail’s journey to England with Joseph of Arimathea, who was entrusted with Christ’s burial and, in legend, given the grail in a vision.”
Lee’s theory diverges from traditional grail lore. He asserts the Grail was discovered during the Crusades by the Knights Templar on Temple Mount, smuggled to England, and hidden in Hertfordshire, where the Templars had a major presence — including Royston Cave and tunnels beneath Hertford.
Eventually, he believes, the Grail came into the possession of Sir Francis Bacon, a key figure in the Rosicrucian secret society and Baron of Verulamium (the Roman name for St Albans).
“Bacon was deeply involved in esoteric thought, with ties to Freemasonry and the Templars,” Lee explains. “He’s buried in St Michael’s Church in St Albans — which unusually features a Star of David in its windows, a symbol linked to Rosicrucians.”
According to Lee, his research led him to the discovery of a forgotten Templar grave, which he believes marks the true resting place of the Grail.
“I’m keeping the exact location secret for now until I get permission to excavate,” he adds.
Inspired by these findings, The Last Grail Hunter follows a washed-up academic and self-proclaimed grail-hater on one final, drink-fuelled quest to confront the legends he once rejected — and uncover the truth behind the most sought-after relic in human history. Set across eerie and symbolic locations in London and St Albans, the film is a haunting blend of psychological horror, mysticism, and historical conspiracy.
