If You Don’t Try, Then You’ll Never Know – The Meaning of Life Series – Article Four

The fear of failure is so rife in our society that it stops so many people from even trying. Whether that’s career related, relationship related or everything in between, fearing trying and falling short is what keeps so many people in their box, and in a life that they don’t feel fulfilled within. I find this incredibly sad, and encourage anyone who desires something to at least try, what’s the worst that could happen?
The saying ‘If at first you don’t succeed, then try again’ I remember as a kid hearing a lot, and I even say the same thing to my kids, it holds a very important point, and I’ll explain why. Very few things in life do you get right the first time, some do but it’s very rare, normally you’ll need a few practice runs to learn and evolve before you get something right, you can apply this example to most things. Part of getting older is learning more and thinking more about things based on your experiences of the past, so with that in mind when deciding to try something it’s important to remember that key fact, but so many seem to forget.
In most cases the best things in life take time and work, and they don’t happen overnight. The decisions you make today can impact the overall outcome further down the line so today is important if it’s in context and you see it as a step in the right direction, not a step and you’ve reached your target destination. A good example of what I’m saying is, for example, let’s say you want to lose a stone in weight by your holiday in 4 weeks’ time. You’re not going to lose that in a day, but your choices today will dictate whether you’re closer to your goal or further away tomorrow. It’s about lots of small victories; that’s the way to reach any kind of destination.
No successful marriages or businesses were built overnight, they took time, and many mistakes will have been made along the way. I can speak from experience about both of those examples and it’s absolutely worth the effort in the end.
