In H.W. Brands' book, "The Zealot and The Emancipator: John Brown, Abraham Lincoln, and the Struggle for American Freedom" during Brown's trial after the raid on Harpers Ferry, Lawson Botts brings up the point of a lot of Brown's family on his mom's side were insane, and some living (and dying) in a mental asylum. Although they said they weren't making an insanity plea, is it possible Brown did have what his other family did, possibly on a smaller scale?
