How can you differ a paranormal experience from a hallucination?

I’ve had a paranormal experience when I was 12, I was very obsessed with witchcraft and I foolishly gave an offering to the fae. I didn’t think it would work but I stayed up during the night and I was playing video games, and all of a sudden I heard giggling and bells coming from the room I put the offering in. I was frozen, I didn’t believe it, it must’ve been a hallucination. But I can’t explain it. I’m mentally Ill and I sometimes experience things that aren’t there, but none of them were EVER as extreme as the fairy experience. How can we differ paranormal from hallucination? People get bored, people do drugs, the brain is extremely powerful, and hallucinations feel very real. I’ve been obsessed with the paranormal for as long as I can remember, but I’m also one of the most skeptical people. how do we know that these paranormal experiences aren’t just our minds?
