Honey trap row disrupts Karnataka assembly again, BJP MLAs storm well of House

The scandal about politicians in Karnataka being honey-trapped continued to dog the proceedings in the Assembly. On Friday, BJP leaders held up CDs, implying these were tools used to extract information and blackmail.
The issue was brought to the notice of the Assembly by Cooperative Minister KN Rajanna on Thursday, when he claimed that 48 political leaders, including central figures, were victims of this kind of political deception.

Taking note of these developments, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah stated that there was no question of protecting anyone in connection with the honey trap case.
Siddaramaiah emphasised that it was the government’s responsibility to ensure justice. “Anyone found guilty under the law must be punished,” he said, adding that “if Rajanna files a complaint, a high-level investigation will be conducted, as the Home Minister (G Parameshwara) had already assured.”
“Bringing up the matter again is unnecessary,” Siddaramaiah said, further asserting that no matter “who orchestrated the honey trap, it was undoubtedly wrong.”
Things got heated when, unsatisfied with the response, one of the BJP leaders sarcastically asked, “How much money has the government kept in the budget for honey trap?”
The Chief Minister then retorted, “What more do you want? We already said an investigation will happen.”

The BJP created more disruptions then, by entering the well of the House.
Meanwhile, the Chief Minister said: “Mere allegations don’t warrant immediate action without proper evidence. Since Rajanna had not named anyone, action could not be taken.” He reaffirmed that there “is no question of protecting anyone involved in the case.”
