A 50-year-old IT professional, Dwaipayan Bhattacharya, died after falling from the sixth floor of his office building in Newtown, Kolkata, on Wednesday afternoon. Bhattacharya was rushed to a nearby hospital but succumbed to his injuries.
Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the fall, which occurred shortly after lunchtime. While suicide is being considered, investigators are exploring all possibilities.

The sources added that the IT professional was going through depression and was on medication for the same. Police are looking into his laptop, phone and other gadgets to piece together evidence as well as probe if financial or family issues could have been behind the step.
Bhattacharya’s wife is also an IT professional. His background includes prestigious institutions like Don Bosco and Presidency College, where he was reportedly a meritorious student.
The incident, which took place around 2.30pm in a busy IT office area, has sent shockwaves through the community. The body has been sent for a post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death.
