Post Considerations and Common Rule Violations
r/Paranormal Community members and guests,
95.3338% of you won't read this, so I'm sure we'll hear from you in modmail following your post removal or ban, but for those who are true HERO users of this sub, please take note: before making a post to r/Paranormal, consider reading the Paranormal Community Guidelines and Rules to avoid removal and bans. Below you will find some common violations that result in removals and sometimes bans, to include a summary of our rule book (Questions? Comment below or email the moderation team):
Common Violations
Low-effort posts: posting only an image or video with a title, or a short sentence in the text body. Users should make a text post only, as a text body is required.
Direct link violation: posting material against the approved list or Rule 2: EVPs, Images, & Videos.
Multiple posts: submitting or cross-posting material to r/Paranormal that is already in another sub. We're only interested in exclusive content, not content that can be viewed elsewhere.
Wall-of-texts: Use paragraphs. You're responsible for your content. If its a wall of text, it will be removed. Some mobile users may have to press enter three times for it to work.
Non-personal submission: As it states in our "about us" section, this sub is for personal first-hand stories, not something that happened to someone else.
Non-Paranormal: Don't post about ghost hunting questions (try r/ghosthunting), phone apps (apps are for entertainment only), rants, or content not related to the paranormal.
Promotional or spam: Don't promote your channel, podcast, etc. Don't publically ask to use or for users to submit content for your use. You will be banned.
Resubmitting removed content: if your post was removed, don't just repost it, because it will be the last thing you do in r/Paranormal. Contact the moderation team if you have questions. Reposting removed content just because you didn't like the moderation ruling is considered circumventing moderation. We can assist, but you have to ask.
Request Threads or AMAs: Do not openly request from the community to provide stories or assist with an outside project, or try to post an AMA. These submissions require moderation approval, as they are moderated events.
Post frequency: Like a few of our sister subs, we limit how often a user can submit within a time period. Users should submit all of their content in a single post. If they wish to submit additional content, they must wait 15 days from their last submission to r/Paranormal. Any updates to their original post can be made via a post edit. Users may check their post history to find out when they last submitted to r/Paranormal.
Arguing or Trolling: Users should not engage in arguments in the comments. Flag the comment for moderation and we'll get to it. If users are found to be trolling or argumentive, they will be banned. This goes out to you religious haters.. just flag it and we'll review it.
Quick Glance at the Rule Book
Rule 1: Direct Links
Only links from the approved list may be submitted.
Do not post youtube videos as references. Only the OP may share personal videos for sharing evidence. Too many users submit random videos, to include religious-based videos. This is viewed as spam.
Don't post links to news articles, google, amazon, etc. You'll want to check that approved list link above, because we're pretty strict with allowed external content.
Rule 2: EVP, Images, & Videos
Only submit evidence from sites on the approved list.
All evidence must be posted in the text body. You must make a text post only!
All evidence must belong to the OP, and must be first-hand, not found or shared by someone else.
Don't post full videos or audio or suggested timestamps. Trim the media down to only show the evidence. Don't add text or music to your video or audio posts, this isn't a movie. Let the community provide their insight on the raw media.
Evidence only! Don't post your ghost hunting experience or pseudo documentary you created. This is not the place.
OPs should not submit links in the comments, only the post body. This can be done while making the post or in a post edit.
Commenters are prohibited from posting links to youtube videos, such as prayer videos, animal sounds, or other videos that may support their claim to debunk. Videos are reserved for only the OP to support their video evidence.
Commenters may add Imgur links to support responses, but not videos. An example would be enhancing OP's image to provide a better version of what is being portrayed, such as brightening or adjusting contrast.
If it has anything to do with TikTok, you're being banned straightaway. Keep that TikTok trash off this sub.
Rule 3: Low-Effort Submissions
media with a title and nothing in the text body
single line in the body
question in the title without content in the body (Try r/askreddit)
lack of punctuation (put effort into your post, don't be lazy)
Rule 4: Non-Paranormal or Fictional Submission
Dont post questions related to ghost hunting. We're not r/GhostHunting
Don't post about apps to use, they are created for entertainment purposes
Don't post to rant about something
don't submit content that is not related to the paranormal
don't post content that is easily debunked. Orbs? probably a bug, dust, or lens flare
Rule 5: Non-Personal Experience Submission
This is simple, if it didn't happen directly to you, it's not a first-hand story (non-personal).
If removed for non-personal, don't pretend to be the person it happened to just so you can repost it. (Yes, this happens a lot)
If you think it's personal because it happened to a family member or someone you know, and you view them as personal to you, consider looking up the definition of first-hand.
Rule 6: Wall-of-Text Submission
Use Paragraphs. If you can't make the effort to press the enter button, but think its okay to type as much as you did and expect people to read through that, you're lazy AF. Put effort into your submission. Also, using "..." to separate sentences is not called a paragraph, it's called bullshit.
Rule 7: Promotional & Spam
Don't promote your podcast, youtube channel, or anything else. That's not what this sub is for.
Don't publicly ask people if you can use their stories for your personal use.
Don't spam your content all over reddit, and then post it in our sub.
Keep your religious beliefs to yourself. Don't push it on others. Praise be to Yevon.
Rule 8: Bullying, Harassment, Threats, and Trolling
Don't come here to talk smack. If there is a problem, report it for us to review.
If you want to be argumentative, we'll have to put you in timeout.
If you want to be an ass to others or in modmail, it should come as no surprise that you will be banned and muted.
Rule 9: Multiple Submissions, Post Frequency, & Segmented Submissions
Do not submit your post if you already, or plan to, post it to a different sub.
Don't cross-post to or from r/Paranormal.
Users can only submit one post (not comment) every 15 days from their last post in r/Paranormal. Submit all of your experiences in a single post, or wait the 15 days.
Updates should be provided in the original post via a text edit, or wait the 15 days.
Do not post segmented posts (part 1, 2, etc).
Rule 10: Reference of Substance Use
We don't allow submissions that involved use of drugs or alcohol. We shouldn't have to explain that.
If you re-submit a post that was removed for this rule, and thought you could just remove any references of substance use, you're wrong. We're aware, and you're now banned.
Rule 11: Personal Information & Social Media
Do not post or comment any personal or social media information or links.
Do not post or comment on addresses or geological information that you or someone you know currently or lived at because the location was haunted. Kind of silly to think that someone may go there to "investigate" when a new family lives there, but it happens.
Rule 12: Urgent, Health Related, & Life or Death Submissions
Do not ask for help RIGHT NOW, or exclaim that you need answers ASAP.
If you are truly scared or fear for your life, don't seek advice from Reddit. Use real-life resources.
Rule 13: Discussion & Request Threads
All requests to post about something that requests the community to provide information for your personal or professional use is prohibited unless approved by the moderation team.
Do not post AMAs, as they require a moderation process.
Rule 14: Use of Automated Submissions or Comments (Bots)
