Do you support mandatory body cameras for police?
Yes, with a but. I think there is an actual chance that a bodycam can malfunction and I don't want to see actual good cops get fired or charged due to faulty equipment. That said, I think the chances are pretty darned slim, but let's put it this way: if you could get fired because your computer breaks down on a shift due to no fault of your own, it would be pretty darned stressful, you know?
That said, I like the idea in practice. I just wish things were better-set in general. As an example, my cell phone can last for about eight hours of basic non-use and due to a busted charger port, I have to use a wireless charger (which is a pain in the butt, but I don't have two days where I can get it repaired without having the phone handy due to work). If I had to work a 12-hour-plus shift without having access to a charger, there is a very real chance that I would lose power. I can imagine bodycams being similar, especially since government-issue typically means being made by the lower bidder.
