What do you guys think about referendums?
America was founded as a democratic republic with representatives elected to allow citizens to have a voice in government. I believe that this is pretty uncontroversial. Some levels of representation (such as the House of Representatives) are supposed to be more representative of their constituents than others (such as the Senate). Do you believe that states that allow referendums are allowing their citizens to make an unwise choice? Do the current political headwinds on which a majority of voters agree outweigh the judgement of a group of respected individuals elected by their neighbours with constitutional authority? I’m not trying to ask any gotcha questions, Trump supporters seem to believe that representative democracy works best and is instrumental in America’s political success and longevity.
