Make Your Voice Heard: Tell Lawmakers to Support Designated Fire Funding
A bill to establish a dedicated wildfire resilience funding account, HB 1168, has made it through the House committee process and awaits a vote on the (virtual) House floor. The bill will get us ahead of the problem by supporting proactive wildfire resilience across Washington — including community preparedness, forest health and fire response capacity — and moves us beyond the unsustainable status quo of fighting fires at every turn.
In an especially busy session like this one, lawmakers need to hear from their constituents to help them prioritize which bills should make it to a floor vote. Not all eligible bills will get a vote — there’s simply not enough time.
That’s where you come in. Washington’s communities and landscapes don’t have any time to waste, either — we need the Legislature to help us get ahead of the wildfire problem now, before another fire season is upon us, bringing smoke-choked skies and endangering life and property.
Will you send a quick note to your representatives in the House today urging a vote on HB 1168?
We know the work our forests and communities need will take years – after all, we’re dealing with a double-whammy of a century of poor forest management, exacerbated by climate change. That’s why there’s no time to waste. Please contact your representatives today.
