Why was it good that the US was reunited after the Civil War

All of this could apply at the time in 1865, but it can all apply now as well.
There are a lot, and I mean a lot, of practical problems that would go along with splitting the country, but here’s what I see as the biggest:
1.) The US Dollar would severely suffer. Theoretically we could just do something like with the Euro, but the Euro isn’t exactly a great standard to base currency on. The dollar would inevitably become weaker, and a nation can’t exactly have the same level of sovereignty as the US without it’s own powerful form of currency (just look at Greece).
2.) The military would be a fiasco. There is absolutely no way the six branches of the military can split up, let alone would they be willing to considering the patriotism all men and women in it feel towards the US.
3.) There would never be enough support, and as with every other big political disagreement that would lead to huge unrest. Sure we hear all this talk about splitting up, but for the most part that remains a vocal minority of hyper-partisans. The measure would have to pass on every level - local, state, and federal - and that simply could not happen. Even in a state like California where everyone seems to be of one political affiliation that would not happen - even Cali has a lot of people who aren’t Democrats as we might think, they have the most registered Republicans out of any state in the nation.
I could keep going, but more importantly than any of that, the biggest problem with splitting the country is that it would ruin the American spirit. It would set a dangerous precedent that anytime we have what we each see as ‘too big of a disagreement’, we can just split. It would just increase the already giant amount of partisanship we have because once again, we’d just be trying to avoid each other instead of coming together to solve a problem. The people at the 1787 Constitutional Convention if Philadelphia - Washington, Madison, Franklin, and our other great founding fathers - were there to compromise. If they hadn’t, we wouldn’t have a country in the first place. PATRIOTISM is what makes this country great, and a privileged few splitting our country over politics would be a massive disservice to everyone else in it.
