President Donald Trump harshly criticized Democrat mayoral candidate Janeese Lewis George, saying that though he would be willing to meet with her, he would not let the city “be destroyed by a communist,” if she was elected mayor of Washington, D.C.
Lewis George, who describes herself as a Democratic Socialist, won the Democrat primary on June 19th and is likely to become the mayor of the deeply blue district after the November general election.
“Janeese Lewis George, the Communist who is almost certainly going to be elected Mayor of Washington, D.C., has stated that she wants to empty the prisons, make D.C. a Sanctuary City, oppose ICE, welcome Criminal Illegal Aliens back into our beloved Capital, resist Anti-Crime Crackdowns, Defund the Police, continue and expand Cashless Bail, and so many other Capital destroying ‘things,’” the president posted to Truth Social on Sunday.
“In the end, it will never work out, nor will I let it even have a chance because I have worked too hard to make Washington, D.C., the Envy of the World, with almost No Crime, and a Beautification process that has been second to none. I will meet with Janeese Lewis George, but must forewarn everyone that Washington, D.C., is again a Safe and Prestigious Community. Many people, including myself, have worked long and hard to get it there, and we will not let it be destroyed by a Communist adherent who has no intention to, MAKE WASHINGTON GREAT AGAIN!” he continued.

Lewis George’s platform includes seeking to lower housing and childcare costs as well as other social initiatives. She also plans to bar police officers from working with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) if she is elected, according to her campaign website.
“DC is under attack and we need leaders that stand up and fight back, not shrink in the face of injustice,” her campaign website stated.
If elected, a priority of her office would be to work “with grassroots organizations and leaders in DC and across the country to build a movement for Statehood rooted in racial and economic justice,” her campaign said.
