'We rise by lifting others’: Milano Cortina Olympics’ opening ceremony touts unity
Mariah Carey belted out “Nothing is Impossible” to rapturous applause, Andrea Bocelli nearly brought down the rafters at Milan’s San Siro Stadium and three of Italy’s greatest Winter Olympians lit twin cauldrons in Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo as the 2026 Winter Olympics officially opened on Friday in venues spread across northern Italy.
The most widespread Games in Olympic history held a fitting opening that also included a parade of athletes in four locations hundreds of kilometers apart.
Tens of thousands of fans took in the ceremony inside San Siro Stadium in what may be one of the last major events hosted at the long-time home of both AC Milan and Inter Milan.
