Burdened by debt, 7 of Dehradun family die by suicide; bodies found in car

Seven members of a family from Dehradun consumed poison and died by suicide in Haryana's Panchkula. The bodies were found locked inside a car parked outside a house in Sector 27.
According to sources, the family took this extreme step as they were in heavy debt and financial distress. Sources added that Praveen Mittal, a resident of Dehradun, had come to attend a spiritual event with his family at the Bageshwar Dham in Panchkula.

The incident took place on Sunday while the family was returning to Dehradun after the event ended.
According to reports, the family was first spotted by locals. Seeing them struggling inside the car, the local residents alerted the police.
Upon arrival, the police broke open the door to rescue the family members, who were in an unconscious state. Subsequently, they were rushed to both a private and a civil hospital, where they were declared dead.
The deceased are Praveen Mittal, 42, his parents, wife and three children -- two daughters and a son.
"Upon initial probe, it seemed like a case of suicide. The forensic team has reached the spot. We will collect all the evidence from the crime scene and analyse it scientifically," senior police official Himadri Kaushik said.
A suicide note was discovered at the site, confirmed police. The bodies have been shifted to a private hospital in Panchkula for post-mortem examination.
