'Entire Building Was Shaking': Residents Rush Out Of Homes As Earthquake Hits Delhi-NCR

A magnitude 4.0 earthquake struck Delhi-NCR at 5.36 am today, with its epicenter in New Delhi. Residents rushed out of their homes and some said their entire building shook.

A magnitude 4.0 earthquake jolted parts of Delhi-NCR on Monday morning. According to the National Center for Seismology, the earthquake had its epicentre in New Delhi and struck at a depth of five kilometres at 5.36 am.
While there were no immediate reports of any damage or injuries due to the earthquake, many residents rushed out of their homes as they felt the tremors.

Speaking to a reporter in Ghaziabad, a resident said he felt strong tremors, something like he had never felt before.
“Tremors were so strong. I have never felt like this ever before. The entire building was shaking," he said.

Another resident said, “I have never experienced an earthquake like this in my life. Everyone in the neighbourhood rushed outside… I am still feeling scared."
Meanwhile, news agency PTI quoted an official as saying that the epicentre was near Durgabai Deshmukh College of Special Education in Dhaula Kuan.
The region, which has a lake nearby, has been experiencing smaller, low-magnitude quakes once every two to three years. It recorded an earthquake of 3.3 magnitude in 2015, he said.
A loud sound was also heard when the earthquake hit, the official added.
A woman in her 50s who was out on a morning walk in E Block of Noida Sector 20 said, “Hum log bahar park me walk kar rahe the toh pata nahin chala. Lekin kafi tej tha. Log bahar aa gaye." (We were walking in the park, so we didn’t feel it strongly. But it was quite strong. People came rushing out).
A passenger, waiting for the arrival of his train at the New Delhi Railway Station, said, “I was in the waiting lounge. All rushed out from there. It felt as if some bridge had collapsed…"
“It was for a lesser time, but the intensity was so high. It felt like any train has come at a very high speed," another passenger said.
“We felt as if any train was running here underground… Everything was shaking," a third passenger at the New Delhi Railway Station told a reporter.

A vendor at the railway station said, “Everything was shaking, customers (passengers) started screaming."
A local, who was outside his house when the earthquake struck, said, “I was out and travelling at the time. At around 5.30 am, I felt the tremors."
